Carmen takes on the world

Westboro’s Carmen Marin has had a mind-blowing 2015. After being invited for a week-long stint with the Costa Rican national squad, Marin stands to join our nation’s under-17 team for the 2016 World Cup. It’s a huge opportunity — testing the 13 year-old’s skills against international players four years her senior. Since her first kicks at age four, soccer has been Carmen’s passion. It has shaped her life: daily practice after school, online videos, and coaching from the Ottawa Royals Futuro program, where she is the only girl on her team. With her father’s encouragement, Marin has always felt the drive to get the job done, hoping one day to go pro and play for international squads. Knowing that she can achieve something “beyond extraordinary,” Marin believes, without a hint of doubt, that, “one day, I’ll go down in history.”
